Congress general secretary for communications Jairam Ramesh made an announcement on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, stating that Harsh Chouhan, the Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), was compelled to resign from his position before completing his full tenure. This news comes after Mr. Chouhan fearlessly confronted the Environment and Forests Ministry for the past two years regarding the perceived weakening of forest laws. Harsh Chouhan took a firm stance, similar to numerous activists, including myself, by expressing strong objections to the current state of forest laws in February 2021 when he was appointed as the Chairperson of the NCST, a Constitutional body.
